Petroc Celebrates National Supported Internship Day 2025

On March 27, 2025, Petroc College proudly joins the national celebration of National Supported Internship Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of supported internships for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The day highlights the tremendous value of these programs in enhancing employability skills and building independence.

Petroc’s Supported Internship program has been a beacon of opportunity for young individuals aged 16-24 with Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans. The program blends classroom-based learning with practical, hands-on work placements in various local businesses. This invaluable real-world experience allows interns to gain confidence, develop crucial employability skills, and actively contribute to their community.

Throughout the year, Petroc’s supported interns have excelled across multiple industries, including retail, hospitality, administration, and more. Local employers have praised the dedication, enthusiasm, and reliability of the interns, many of whom have gone on to secure paid employment as a direct result of their internships.

The success of the program would not be possible without the unwavering support of Petroc’s dedicated staff. From job coaches providing on-the-job training to mentors helping students navigate new environments, the team ensures that every student receives tailored guidance and encouragement. Additionally, Petroc staff offer vital assistance outside of work placements, including travel training and employability workshops to enhance independent living skills.
