Petroc Go Spain – Career Skills Students Blossom Through International Experience

Fourteen students from Petroc’s Career Skills programme have returned from an inspiring eight-day adventure in Spain as part of the Petroc Go Spain initiative, funded by the UK Turing Scheme.

Accompanied by five staff members, the group began their journey in Huelva, where they reunited with host partner IES Fuentepina. During their visit, students rolled up their sleeves to maintain and enhance the sensory garden originally created by Petroc students two years ago. Working side-by-side with Spanish students and staff, the group not only strengthened international bonds but also gained a deeper understanding of teamwork and community effort. They also had the chance to learn a few Spanish phrases, adding a linguistic element to their cultural exchange.

The trip continued with a visit to the vibrant city of Seville, where course-related activities were balanced with cultural sightseeing. A highlight was the Hop On Hop Off Bus tour, which gave students a rich overview of the city’s historic landmarks and lively atmosphere.

The entire experience fostered key employability skills, including independence, communication, and collaboration—skills that will serve these students well in their future careers.

This unforgettable opportunity was made possible through the UK Turing Scheme, supporting Petroc’s mission to provide life-changing learning beyond the classroom.
