This course has been carefully designed in partnership with employers and professional bodies, ensuring it’s perfectly aligned with the needs of the animal care and management sector. It equips you with the knowledge, skills, and understanding that will give you a strong foundation for both employment and further education in this rewarding field.
The qualification consists of six mandatory units, covering key aspects of animal management, including:
– Animal Welfare: From ethics and practical animal husbandry to understanding animal behaviour.
– Animal Science: Dive into animal biology, health, and disease, to gain an in-depth understanding of the vital areas that affect animal care.
There are also units covering personal and self development, including an investigative research project and work experience.

Course details
Assessments
Assessment is via a mixture of written assignments, theory based exams and a written research project. There is a synoptic assessment which involves a series of practical tasks to test practical competency.
Entry Requirements
To be accepted onto this Level 3 programme, you must hold at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including GCSE Maths and English Language.
You’ll need a genuine passion for animal care and environmental management, a strong ability to study independently, and a desire to hone your practical skills – including handling a diverse range of species.
To successfully complete your qualification, you’ll also need to gain at least 150 hours of hands-on work experience, putting your learning into practice and giving you invaluable real-world experience.
Progression
Your progression starts with the second year, where you’ll complete the Extended Diploma, equivalent to 3 A-Levels.
When combined with other Level 3 qualifications as part of a comprehensive two-year programme, you’ll be well-prepared to progress onto a variety of degree programmes in the dynamic field of animal management.

These incredible resources allow you to gain hands-on experience in a supervised, safe environment, simulating real-world animal care scenarios.

Q: Do I need to have work experience in the sector prior to starting the course?
A: It is not essential but we strongly recommend that you do some work experience in an animal based setting to ensure you understand the type of day to day care needed and are sure this is a path you want to pursue.

A: No, you can study this course with no prior knowledge.
