Petroc Students Experience a Transformative Journey to Bali

Petroc Health & Social Care students recently had the opportunity to travel to Bali as part of the Petroc Go 2025 programme, operated in partnership with Think Pacific. This unique initiative provided students with the opportunity to engage with local communities, learn about pressing social issues, and immerse themselves in Balinese culture while gaining invaluable skills for their future careers.

The programme was designed to create meaningful and transformative experiences for students while addressing the specific needs of local Balinese communities. As part of their itinerary, the students participated in a range of activities that provided deep cultural and social insights, including:

  • Visiting Cahaya Mutiara Ubud Foundation and Bhakti Senang Hati, organisations dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Meeting with organisations that are actively working to address social challenges in Bali, gaining firsthand knowledge of local initiatives and solutions.
  • Attending a talk at Siadja Gallery by a guest speaker from Partner Bali Bersama Bisa, a group focused on mental health and support services.
  • Planning, developing, and presenting a course-related project that reflected their experiences and learnings from the programme.
  • Exploring the rich heritage of Bali through visits to Saraswati Temple, Ubud Palace, and the Art Market.
  • Experiencing Balinese traditions with a visit to Penglipuran Village, where they learned about bamboo weaving and enjoyed a guided village tour.

This immersive programme was made possible through funding from the UK Turing Scheme, a government initiative that provides students with global opportunities to develop key skills, enhance cultural intelligence, and strengthen their leadership capabilities. Through their participation, students broadened their perspectives, boosted their employability, and contributed to a meaningful exchange of knowledge and experience between cultures.

With a combination of cultural exploration, academic engagement, and community collaboration, the Petroc Go Bali trip left a lasting impact on both the students and the Balinese communities they engaged with.
