Looking to enter the construction industry or broaden your existing skills? The Multi-Skills Bootcamp in Construction is a 12-week practical course designed to introduce you to a range of core construction trades.
Delivered in person every Thursday at our main campus in North Devon, this Skills Bootcamp offers hands-on experience in several key trades – ideal for anyone looking to enter the sector, retrain, or progress in a property maintenance or site-based role.
The course is part of the government-funded Skills Bootcamp programme, which helps adults gain sector-specific skills and progress into employment or higher-level training.
What You Will Learn
You’ll be introduced to practical techniques across multiple construction disciplines. No prior experience is required – this course is designed to support learners at all levels.
Trade Skills Covered:
Basic Bricklaying – Develop practical brickwork skills and understand essential techniques and safety considerations.
Basic Carpentry – Gain the core skills needed to begin working with wood in a construction context.
Introduction to Plastering – Learn basic plastering methods – ideal for complete beginners considering a specialist trade.
Small-Scale Building Repairs – Get to grips with common repair tasks essential to property maintenance.
Introduction to Painting & Decorating – Develop creative and technical painting skills to get a foot in the door of this vibrant trade.

Course details
Assessments
There are no formal exams. Instead, you will be assessed practically during each session as you build your skills in each trade.
At the end of the course, you will receive a Petroc Certificate of Attendance for each element of the programme completed, evidencing your skills to future employers or training providers.
Entry Requirements
This Skills Bootcamp involves a commitment of 72 hours in person at our North Devon campus over 12 weeks.
Progression
Completion of this Skills Bootcamp is designed to help you take your next step into employment, training, or further education in the construction industry.
Progression Routes Include:
A guaranteed job interview with a local employer
Further training in a specialist trade (e.g. Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying, Carpentry, or Property Maintenance)
Enhanced career prospects in your current role if you are already working in the sector

Do I need previous experience to apply?
No – this course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience who want to gain new skills or diversify their knowledge.
Is this course really free?
Yes – for most applicants, the course is fully funded through the Skills Bootcamp initiative. If you are employed and looking to upskill, your employer may be asked to contribute.
Can I do more than one trade on this course?
Yes – you will experience all five trade areas (bricklaying, carpentry, plastering, painting & decorating, and small repairs), giving you a broad and adaptable skill set.
What qualification will I receive?
You’ll receive a Petroc Certificate of Attendance for each aspect of the course, recognising your training and achievements.
Will this course help me find a job?
Yes – the course is designed to lead directly to employment. You’ll be offered a guaranteed job interview with a local employer at the end of the programme, and receive careers support from our dedicated team.
