If you’re passionate about food and looking to kickstart or enhance your culinary career, our Chef de Partie Skills Bootcamp offers the perfect blend of hands-on training, professional development, and employer engagement.

Running from 28th April to 14th July, this fully funded programme is delivered in-person every Monday in our purpose-built training kitchens at the North Devon main campus. The course is part of the national Skills Bootcamp initiative—short, flexible courses designed to build sector-specific skills and fast-track you to a guaranteed job interview with an employer.

What You Will Learn
Throughout this course, you’ll gain practical cookery skills across a wide range of areas, including:

Meat and poultry dishes with appropriate sauces
Fish and shellfish preparations
Soups and stocks
Vegetarian and vegan meals
Hot, cold, and frozen desserts
Patisserie and pastry items
Biscuits, cakes and sponges
Bread and dough products

You will also work towards achieving your Level 2 Food Safety at Work Certificate, an essential qualification for employment in hospitality.

There will be no formal initial assessment, assessments throughout the sessions will be based off the finished plated pieces of food that they produce with verbal feedback

Completion of this Skills Bootcamp is designed to lead into further training and employment in the hospitality and catering trade enter a professional kitchen as a trainee/commis chef.

What is a Skills Bootcamp?

Skills Bootcamps are government-funded training programmes designed to help adults develop industry-specific skills quickly—typically over 12 to 16 weeks. They’re flexible, focused, and offer a fast route to employment or progression.



Is the course really free?

Yes – the Chef de Partie Skills Bootcamp is fully funded for eligible adults. You must be aged 19 or over and either looking for work, changing careers, or aiming to progress within your current role.



Do I need previous kitchen or hospitality experience?

No prior experience is required. This course is ideal for beginners as well as those already working in hospitality who wish to broaden or update their skills.



How is the course delivered?

The course runs in person every Monday, from 28th April to 14th July, in our professional training kitchens at the North Devon campus. You’ll receive expert tutor guidance and hands-on experience throughout.



What qualification will I gain?

On successful completion, you’ll receive:



A Chef de Partie Skills Bootcamp Certificate



A Level 2 Food Safety at Work Certificate – a nationally recognised qualification required for working in food environments



Is there a guaranteed job at the end?

While a job offer isn’t guaranteed, the course includes a guaranteed job interview with a local employer. We work closely with our network of hospitality partners to give you the best chance of employment upon completion.

What do I need to bring or wear?

You’ll be advised of suitable clothing and footwear before the course begins. Most practical sessions require non-slip shoes and appropriate chefwear, which can often be supplied or sourced at low cost.
